ABOUT US
Our involvment with the Renault/Lotus gearbox started way back in 1978; when I fitted a 4 speed gearbox into a Hilman Imp Stilletto and used it competitively in Autograss racing.
In a quest for more power and speed, fuel injection was fitted, followed by an increase in capacity. By this time (1982) the gearbox was probably my biggest failure rate. An uprated UN1 (with a Renault 5 maxi turbo close ratio gearkit and powerlock LSD) was fitted and racing continued.
The gearbox eventually failed along with my desire to buy another one from Renault (I recall it to be about £6000 in the mid ‘80s!). I then modified a Quaife LSD for a Peugeot 504 or 505 to fit the UN1, the rest is history!!!! The Hilman Imp became an open wheel single seater twin turbo, fire breathing gearbox eater! This car was raced extensively through the ninties and into the early part of 2000/01 (using slicks on sprints and hillclimbs).
Quaifes quality over the years made them our first choice for LSDs and gearbox upgrades. We have a 6 speed dog gearbox as a demo car in my sons Renault 5 turbo 2 which due to its quick gearchanges and close ratios, absolutely transformed the car.
Our other involvment in motorsport is GTO Engineering (Ferrari Specialists) www.gtoengineering.com
